...The smart money around the music scene is on The Spikes these days - an Irish rock band who have catapulted themselves to considerable success in a short time through a mixture of hard work, an ear for a 'killer melody' (Metro), an undeniable ability to 'mine a groove' (HotPress) and a live show that is undoubtedly 'energetic' and 'stylish' (Irish Times).
Behind this style though comes considerable substance - the band's four members brought experience from just about every musical genre with them when they came together as a unit in 2005. And the combination quickly proved to be a winner - The Spikes have already released four singles, racking up chart success, critical acclaim and regular radio airplay, and are poised to release their debut album, URGES and PURGES, early in 2009. Coupled with this the band have had tracks featured on the hugely successful Ceol '07 album and the official Munster Rugby Heineken Cup commemorative DVD, while the video for their single 'Ninja Girlfriend' was produced by the Tisch School of the Arts in New York, in conjunction with HotPress magazine.
After a whirlwind 12 months the lads stepped off the stage and into the studio to put some more time into their album - which has always been their focus. So THE SPIKES have been off the live radar for a little while... but now they're back with a bang, and when you get the opportunity to catch them, don't miss it.
